San Joaquin Valley Power Authority

The San Joaquin Valley Power Authority (Authority) is the governing body of Community Choice. The Authority will buy power for over 112,000 residential, business and municipal customers within the region.

The 12 municipalities that make up the Authority prepared a Community Choice Implementation Plan and received certification by the California Public Utilities Commission on April 30, 2007.

The Authority will set electrical generation rates for customers within its service area and will purchase power from the Kings River Conservation District. Conservative estimates on rates show a 5 percent savings on generation costs.

Currently, Kings County and the cities of Clovis, Hanford, Lemoore, Corcoran, Reedley, Sanger, Selma, Parlier, Kingsburg, Dinuba and Kerman participate in the new Valley-based power authority.
